Our Reception classes are named Stars and Rockets.
We invest time and energy into helping pupils set and reflect on their own goals by aiming high and developing a love of reading, writing and number. We deliver our curriculum through a balance of adult led whole class teaching, adult-led group work and child-initiated activities based on the EYFS Framework 21’ & children’s interests. Children learn both through child-initiated play and carefully planned adult led activities.
In a safe and stimulating environment, children are encouraged to apply all the skills they have learnt in a myriad of exciting and interesting ways. A holistic curriculum which maximises opportunities for meaningful cross-curricular links and learning experiences as well as promoting the unique child by offering extended periods of play and sustained thinking following children’s interests and ideas. We value imagination and creativity and seek to create a sense of enjoyment and fascination in learning through a vibrant continuous indoor and outdoor provision, alongside trips and regular special visitors.
By the end of the Reception year, our intent is to ensure that all children make at least good progress from their individual starting points and are equipped with the skills and knowledge to have a smooth transition into Year 1.
