Welcome
Welcome to Reception at our school, where our classes, Stars and Rockets, provide a nurturing, exciting and inspiring start to your child's learning journey.
We believe that a child's first year at school is incredibly important. Our aim is to help every child feel happy, safe and confident, while developing a lifelong love of learning. We work closely with families to ensure each child settles well, builds positive relationships and thrives from their individual starting points.
Our Curriculum
Our Reception curriculum is carefully planned in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework and is delivered through a balance of adult-led teaching, small group activities and child-initiated play. We recognise that young children learn best when they are actively engaged, exploring their interests and investigating the world around them. Through a rich and stimulating indoor and outdoor environment, children are encouraged to develop independence, resilience, creativity and problem-solving skills.
Phonics and Drawing Club
Developing communication and language skills and learning to read is at the heart of everything we do. We teach phonics using the Read Write Inc. programme, helping children develop the skills and confidence needed to become fluent readers and writers. To inspire a love of writing, we use Drawing Club, a creative approach that immerses children in exciting stories, adventures and imaginative experiences, providing meaningful opportunities for children to develop their vocabulary, mark-making and early writing skills.
Mastering Number
In mathematics, we follow the Mastering Number programme, enabling children to build a secure understanding of number, pattern and mathematical concepts through practical, engaging and hands-on experiences.
The Wider Curriculum
Throughout the year, children enjoy a wide range of exciting learning opportunities, including themed experiences, visitors, celebrations, outdoor learning and a school trip. These memorable experiences help bring learning to life, broaden children's horizons and encourage curiosity about the world around them.
We place great value on children's voices and encourage them to reflect on their learning, celebrate their achievements and set personal goals. Through play, exploration and carefully planned teaching, we support children to develop the three Characteristics of Effective Learning: Playing and Exploring, Active Learning, and Creating and Thinking Critically.
By the end of Reception, our goal is for every child to have made excellent progress, developed a love of learning and gained the skills, knowledge and confidence needed for a smooth and successful transition into Year 1.
